Test Solutions are the most complex aspect of your RF Testing Project. You have the Test Equipment, you have the equipment to be tested, but what else? If you are migrating your Test Solution from a legacy ATE you may find that it was written in a company specific language, like Ferranti Stripped Atlas, or it could be just a collection of code with no information on what the testing sequences are or how the are undertaken. It may even be that the test program was written using DOS 3.11 and now you are on a more modern operating system. These examples are taken from experiences Gaddon Consultants have already had.
Many times test solutions are seen as the software alone not as the complete package of unit under test, Test equipment and the software and the project is run in this manner.
If the project is new then having the top-level design of the Test Solution can guide the Test Equipment requirements reducing time spent on integration and solution testing. It may also seem that carrying out the design in top down steps may slow the project down, but with the mobility of personnel and the speed of advance of equipments having the stages fully documented saves time and money during upgrade or migration.
